Gili Meno - Indonesia

We left Cairns heading north to Indonesia for a two weeks on a tiny little island called Gili Meno.  We were looking for a little beach time after what was a fairly fast paced month and half beginning in New Zealand, and Gili Meno proved to be exactly what we needed.  We flew to Bali and spent a quick night there before hopping on a ferry and sailing the roughly 2 hours.  Gili Meno is the smallest and least populated of the Gili islands, with a permanent population of about 300.  There are no cars or motorcycles on the island, just bicycles and horse drawn carts.

We were booked to stay at a small eco-resort on the island that had 4 bungalows and 1 private villa.  For most of our two-week stay we were the only guests so it felt like we had the whole place to ourselves.  It was the rainy season so there weren't many tourists.  It did rain almost every day we were there, but normally we had nice weather from when we woke up to about two or three in the afternoon.  We used this time to snorkel in the reefs that surround the island.  For divers and snorkelers, the Gili islands are known for the sea turtles that live in the shallow reefs here.  We were really lucky and saw several while we snorkeled, as well as some Moray eels and huge schools of tropical fish.  We went for one scuba dive and also saw several turtles, eels, a really active octopus and some really cool shrimps.

We don't have too many photos unfortunately, but with the constant threat of rain we thought it was best to leave the camera safely in our room.  Samantha was able to grab some stills from our goPro footage, so enjoy the video and pictures and stay tuned for our next update from Hanoi!
