Can Tho & Ho Chi Minh City - Vietnam

After exploring the center of Vietnam at Hoi An and Hue, we flew south to Can Tho, a city on the Mekong Delta. The delta is filled with canals, rivers, swamps and rice paddies. There isn't all that much to do there, but we booked several extra days to relax after a busy travel schedule. One of the highlights of Can Tho is the floating markets.

Just as every city we've been to in southeast Asia has day and night markets, Can Tho has a market on boats in the canals. Only fruit and vegetables are sold in this market, with boats piled high with pineapples, watermelons, sweet potatoes, and weird things we'd never heard of before. We were the only two people on our boat, and enjoyed a nice breakfast and morning on the water, cruising through canals and ogling the wares for sale.

After Can Tho, we went to Ho Chi Minh City. We were very happy to be in a city that had some other food other than Vietnamese. Though we love Vietnamese food, we definitely were ready for a change! There were three craft breweries within walking distance of our hotel, and we enjoyed some great beer and delicious food.

By the end of our time in Vietnam, we were feeling pretty ready for American basics, like sidewalks, the ability to cross a street without fearing for your life, chocolate chip pancakes, and blue cheese dressing. We flew to Hawaii and ended our time in Asia!
